Five FrightFest Facts From Wyndham Price Writer and Director of Crow

Wyndham Price Crow

111. Tell us about your film?

My film is called Crow. It explores the battle between a ruthless developer, Tucker, and a group of travellers, the Crow tribe.
He buys an old farm with a substantial wood attached. Then he violently evicts the tribe who live there. But one of them; the eponymous Crow of the title, lives like a feral animal in the wood. Initially, an innocent abroad in a strange world, he mutates into the one who will stop the development. It’s a supernatural thriller, where Crow becomes a serial killer to stop Tucker.

2. How did you get into making Horror movies.

I remember watching the Hammer films as a kid, and the continuous re-runs of classic James Whale films – yes, that long ago! So I was hooked on them from then. I know its obvious, but I really love the suspense and shock of the genre, yet Crow is my first horror film, and even then it’s as much social and ecological commentary as anything else. Truth is, it’s not as easy as you think to make a good horror, but I’ve always wanted to make one and now I have! It was great fun!

3. What film would you love to see screened at Frightfest and why?

Well this is going to sound like a terrible cop-out, but I would love to see them all. I’m sure I’d get a kick out each one of them. I was at The Watershed Arts Centre in Bristol the other week and picked up a DVD of Them, the 2006 French / Romanian film. Just over seventy minutes long, grainy and somehow unpolished, I took it home and watched it in the dark and was totally riveted. It was such a thrill. So I’m a fan and know I would love them all. From a historical point of view can you imagine turning up in the early sixties to watch Psycho; Hitchcock doing his thing, with that ridiculously iconographic score by Bernard Hermann. What a thrill. Imagine being transported to a FrightFest back then to see that. Tumultuous!

4. If you could create your own award at FrighFest, what would it be and why?

That’s easy. Though I’d create two. I’d create an award for persistence! I’d call it the ‘Trooper Award’, as you certainly need persistence in this business. You have to keep going when all seems lost. Hopefully, it works out in the end! The second award would be for the ‘Best Splash of Blood’. This would lead to some fantastic innovation in how to splatter the screen! Haha.imgres

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would you call it and who would play the leading role.

I think it would be called ‘Waiting to be Him’. About an honest man with ‘no hoper’ written all over him, who wakes up one day in another man’s body. Someone, who is everything the other man isn’t, but something else as well – he’s a killer! I’d get Tom Hardy to play the lead… one way of transforming myself into a good-looking bloke anyway!

Crow plays Sunday 28th August at this years FrightFest. Find out more and book Tickets HERE
