The Twentieth FrightFest is here so obviously our exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From… is back with a vengeance. Below we hear from Jennifer Reeder director of KNIVES AND SKIN and you can read more FrightFest Facts from 2019 and beyond by clicking HERE.
1. Tell us about your film?
I refer to KNIVES AND SKIN as a “midwestern gothic teen noir.” It follows the disappearance of a teen girl in a small rural town in the US.
2. How did you get into making horror movies?
Well, KNIVES AND SKIN is more horror “borrowing.” But I have long made films with dark elements. I make films based in raw human emotions and this is most visible around trauma which is certainly an aspect of horror.
3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Its an oldie and subtle but I would love to see Hitchcock’s REBECCA. For me its fully genre but so dang restrained and tense. It’s a classic and I would love to see it projected on a huge screen.
4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Best Blood. My own films tend to be quite bloody and I am very particular about the blood I use (fake of course) which makes me extra critical of the blood I see in other films. Get the blood correct! Be the BEST BLOOD.
5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
It would be called MOTHER IS MAD and Busy Phillips would be the lead…….or Gone With the Wind era Vivian Leigh!
