Five FrightFest Facts From Chris Patterson Producer of Hostage to the Devil

11111. Tell us about your film?
Chris Patterson: Hostage to the Devil is was a labour of love for both Martin Stalker and myself. It’s about Father Malachi Martin, the man who taught the Ed and Lorraine Warren about exorcism. We look at exorcism during his lifetime as well exorcism today. Sometimes fact is scarier than fiction. I think Hostage to the Devil is the most original documentary about exorcism there’s been in a long time.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
Chris Patterson: I’ve been in the business for over 15 years now and work on all sorts of weird and wonderful projects. When I decided to produce my own stuff I knew genre was where my heart lay. I guess it was an early love of John Carpenter films, Halloween, The Thing, They Live and especially Prince of Darkness that dragged me in.
An average day in our office including at least two horror films screening as we work. We watch old, new and everything in between.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Chris Patterson: We’ll actually my favourite documentary is screening this year. The Killing of America which I first saw this back in the early 90s, has been the bedrock of my doc aspirations ever since. It’s like John Carpenter made a doc about serial killers. It’s a screening not to be missed.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Chris Patterson: They should have a Scream’ometer ™ in every screening which measures the audience noise. The film that creates the most screams wins. I think it would be a throwback to good old days of 50/60s B Movies like THEM! and The Tingler.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
Chris Patterson: Coffeegeddon – The world runs of coffee. Nightmare! I’d played by Samuel L Jackson.

Hostage to the Devil plays Friday 26th August at this years FrightFest. Find out more and book Tickets HERE
