The Twentieth FrightFest is here so obviously our exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From… is back with a vengeance. Below we hear from Abigail Blackmore writer & director of Tales From The Lodge and you can read more FrightFest Facts from 2019 and beyond by clicking HERE.
1. Tell us about your film?
It’s a slightly weird horror-comedy portmanteau containing a cast of national treasures.
2. How did you get into making horror movies?
I was an actor, then I was a disillusioned actor, then I got into writing and started casting myself and messing around with cameras. I discovered I like writing and directing better than acting. And there’s no better genre than horror. Except maybe property shows.
3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Probably Tobe Hooper’s Salem’s Lot two-parter. It was a seminal experience for me and it still holds up. I’ve never seen it on the big screen. I imagine it would be great. So atmospheric. Ralphie at the window, Mike in the rocking chair…
4. If you could create your own award to give at FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Best heckle? Or most subtle walk out so the filmmakers don’t feel bad. It’d have to be an audience-based award. Best Q&A question, maybe?
5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
It would be called The Ending and it would be about a writer who is trying to find the ending to their new script. It all goes horribly wrong and she has to have an exorcism (artistic licence). Starring Cate Blanchett.
