Back at FrightFest 2017 Double Date was one of our favourite films of the fest and now the generally public get to see why, but not before we quiz the films cast and crew!
After its much lauded theatrical release and fantastic reception on its Fright Fest premiere, the bloody hilarious comedy-horror Double Date – written by and starring Screen International/FrightFest Genre Rising Star 2017 award winner Danny Morgan – is set to arrive on digital, DVD and Blu-ray from Sparky Pictures.
Self-assured, and irritatingly cocksure, one thing Alex (Michael Socha – This is England, Chernobyl) can boast about is his loyalty to his dearest friend, Jim (Danny Morgan – On The Road). As Jim’s 30th birthday approaches, Alex promises to help get his best friend laid, so he won’t reach this unwelcome milestone a virgin. They muster up the courage to arrange a double date with sisters Kitty (Kelly Wenham – Dracula: The Dark Prince) and Lulu (Georgia Groome – Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging), but little do the boys know, their partners have other plans for the night ahead…
Below we grill writer/actor Danny Morgan with some daring and dubious questions in our special interview Double Talk:
1. How did you get into making movies?
In my mid 20s I started making some very cheap, short films with Ben Barfoot (check out ‘Where Did It All Go Ron?’ On Youtube). At the same time I tried to write my first feature script (Double Date). Then I randomly met Matt Wilkinson (Producer) at a bar, he read Double Date and he liked mine and Ben’s shorts… and the power trio was born!
2. What was the best bit of making Double Date?
That’s hard cos the whole experience was out of this world. I think just hearing actors saying my lines and seeing crew working so hard to bring it to life was unbelievably humbling……. On and getting to kick a man’s head off (will make more sense when you see the film).
3. What has been your most dreadful dating experience?
I once drunkenly fell asleep on a woman’s sofa at her place after a really good date. When I woke up I had pissed myself and all over her sofa. I panicked, ran out of her flat before she woke up, and never saw her again. If you’re out there, I’m truly sorry.
4. What is your favourite horror film and why?
Probably The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Was the first horror that made me feel genuinely unsafe as I was watching it. Like I shouldn’t be watching this. It should be illegal. This is too scary. Just the atmosphere and tone is awesome. Then when it goes bat shit crazy at the end. That was definitely an influence on Double Date.
5. Who would be the worst horror character to go on a double date with?
Hahaha! Great question. I mean going for dinner at Hannibal Lector’s place would be problematic. ‘Ooh Hannibal these sausages are divine, what kind of meat is this?’
6. What’s next for you?
More films hopefully! The Double Date team have our next project lined up and we hope to shoot next year. It’s about gingers, I’ll say that. Other than that, I wanna write more, act more, and hopefully direct as well!
Double Date is out on Blu-ray, DVD and digital from 9 September.
