Five FrightFest Facts From Orson Oblowitz director of Hell is Where the Home is

1. Tell us about your film?
Two dysfunctional couples go on an idyllic desert getaway to work out their problems. Fairuza Balk shows up in the middle of the night and all hell breaks loose.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
It’s the only genre that would take me. But I’ve always been a fan of horror films. I remember seeing Halloween when I was a little kid and just couldn’t get enough. I could watch the VHS tape over and over again. Also, Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight was the coolest thing I’d ever seen as a kid.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Damn, that’s a hard one. I love Michelle Soavi’s Cemetery Man and was too young to see it in theaters. So I’d love to watch the audience at Frightfest react to it.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Best Act of Violence. It would be based on originality of the violence, execution of the violence (see what I did there) and the audience reaction to the act of violence. I think some past winners would include the fire extinguisher smash in Irreversible and the beheading of Amy Seimetz in You’re Next.
This year, even though it isn’t At Frightfest, I think it goes to the decapitation in Hereditary. I look forward to what ingenious acts of violence I’ll see at this year’s Frightfest.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
It would be called…My Memory, My Prison. It would be a coming of age horror film about my teenage years in a remote boarding school (kind of like The Blackcoat’s Daughter). It would star Julian Dennison, the kid from Deadpool 2 and The Hunt for The Wilderpeople.
