Five FrightFest Facts From Jenn Wexler director of The Ranger

FrightFest is back and so is our exclusive interview feature Five FrightFest Facts From which promises to bring you the brains behind the bloody brilliance of some of the best films featured at the fantastic horror fest.

1. Tell us about your film?
THE RANGER is about a bunch of punks kids who get in trouble with the cops and go to the woods to hide out. But there’s a park ranger who oversees these woods, and he has little patience for bad attitudes.

2. How did you get into making horror movies?
I’ve always been really interested in filmmaking and in horror. When I was a kid I used to make little horror and sci-fi movies with my friends. My first job out of school was working in the marketing department at FEARnet, a horror TV channel that introduced me to the genre as an industry. While there I made short horror films in my off-time. I was a big fan of Larry Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix, and when I moved to New York a few years later, I met Fessenden and producer Peter Phok, who took me under their wing and taught me how to produce. At some point I showed Larry the script for THE RANGER, which I wanted to direct as my first feature, and he was so incredibly supportive.

3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Some films I’m really excited to see are WHAT KEEPS YOU ALIVE, ANNA & THE APOCALPYSE and CLIMAX because I’ve just been hearing amazing things about them. Some films that I’ve already seen and enjoyed—and I think Fright Fest audiences will love them—are UPGRADE, THE DEVIL’S DOORWAY, and DEMENTIA PART II.

4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Best Stunt. Stunt coordinators and performers are responsible for some of our favorite horror movie moments, but rarely get the recognition.

5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
I did that! It is called THE RANGER. Granted, I’ve never come up against a killer park ranger, but there are themes in the film taken directly from my life. And I would cast THE RANGER star Chloë Levine in the lead!

The Ranger plays CINEWORLD MAIN SCREENS 6.00 & 6.30 PM 23RD AUGUST find our more HERE
