Love Horror: Tell us about your film?
Jamie Patterson: Fractured is a home invasion movie with a twist. The twist means it’s hard to talk about but essentially it tells the story of a couple, Rebecca and Michael looking to get away for a romantic weekend. Things don’t quite go to plan though and their holiday home quickly turns into a terrifying prison as they are tortured by something or someone outside.

Love Horror: How did you get into making horror movies?
Jamie Patterson: Horror has always been my favourite genre. I love the feeling of being scared, it always reminds me of when I was staying over at a friends house when I was a kid and we watched Candyman. That feeling of thinking he was under the bed was petrifying. It’s a feeling that I now struggle to get but am always searching for. I love that excitement I get when I sit down to watch a horror movie, that struggling to breath feeling, there’s nothing quite like it. Horror has and will probably always be the most commercial genre out there, it’s one of the few genres you can get green lit non cast dependent. A lot of horror films come my way and if it’s a good script I generally jump on board to make it.

Love Horror: What is your view on horror in 2017 and how would you change it?
Jamie Patterson: Horror is different for everyone. For me the genre was at it’s peak in the 70’s, films like Halloween, The Omen and Texas Chainsaw Massacre has this gritty and dirty look to them. That’s a look that’s disappeared over the years, most horrors have a very glossy feel to them nowadays, for me that takes me out of the film. Gore has taken over, torture porn has become a genre and for me that takes away the fear. I don’t find gore that scary, I like atmosphere and tone, two things I think have been lost in recent horror films, two things I’m keen to bring back.

Love Horror: What is your favourite horror film and why?
Jamie Patterson: The Witches. To this day that film still gives me nightmares, it’s crazy it’s a PG. There’s two particular scenes that stand out, the one where the witch tries to entice the boy down from his treehouse with some chocolate and obviously the scene where they all take off their masks for their first time. Scared the living shit out of me.

Love Horror: If Hollywood came knocking and gave you anything you wanted what movie would you make and who would it star?
Jamie Patterson: I would of loved to direct the reboot of Halloween. I’m not talking about the awful Rob Zombie films where he totally missed the point of everything that made the original so wonderful, I mean the one in pre production now with David Gordon Green directing. I would love to make that movie, I would probably cast Elle Fanning in the lead.
