New Ghostbusters Movie to be ‘Scarier’
Forget all the fuss around the release of The Interview. What we were most excited about when it came to the recent Sony scandals was the leak of information linked to the new Ghostbusters movie(s)!
Ghostbusters Reboot?
Upon hearing the title of a classic film followed by the word ‘reboot’ I usually wince and/or let our an agonising groan. This is because of the number of reboots that have downright sullied their namesakes (just like Rupert Wainwright did with his take on The Fog in 2005 which I will never forgive him for).
However, after hearing the (rumoured) director of the forthcoming Ghostbuster movie’s reasons behind doing such a thing in this case, it has to be said that it makes sense.
When talking to Empire, he explained that there was “the feeling that once the world knows ghosts and has seen them busted on such a large scale, they run the risk of becoming pedestrian. There’s something fun about introducing our world, which has never seen ghosts to the phenomenon of ghosts. I love origin stories and to introduce new characters.”
He has a point. It’s like the recent Hobbit films. After seeing orcs and goblins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, they just weren’t scary or exciting anymore.
Female Cast
Although all of the information in this post is obviously rumour and conjecture, it does look like the next Ghostbuster film could see the ‘busters’ becoming a female team. Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Lizzy Caplan and Rebel Wilson have all been linked with the film and it’s hard to see how they could put all that female talent in a movie without them all having integral roles.
Channing Tatum
Channing Tatum has also been linked to the franchise, although it’s unclear as to whether his project could be an entirely different one and all indications suggest that the powers that be are planning more than one new Ghostbusters movie. In one of the leaked Sony emails Tatum and Chris Pratt were mentioned for a series of films taking guidance from Christopher Nolan, the guy that reinvented Batman.
Scarier
And finally, as reported by Vulture.com yet another of the Sony emails suggested that the new movie(s) will be “scarier and more hi-tech than the original Ghostbusters.”
All very exciting stuff.
So that’s just about all of the reliable (kinda) evidence that we’ve found so far. We’ll keep you updated with more details as they come…
