Celluloid Screams Horror Festival 2010 Programme Announced

Showroom Cinema brings the world wide fascination of horror to its screens for a mega festival of film from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th of October 2010 with Sheffield’s own Celluloid Screams.

Celebrating its second year with the very best in classic and contemporary horror cinema; a gruesome extravaganza filled with exclusive premieres, special guests and cult classics from the archives.

The programme comprises 13 horrifying features plus a massive selection of shorts produced by up and coming film makers shown before various screenings many of which will be seen in the UK for the first time.

Festival Director Robert Nevitt is also pleased to announce this year a line up of special guests including Director Chris Petropoulos who will be coming to Sheffield for the World Premiere of his feature Subconscious and Robert Morgan who will be introducing a retrospective of his award winning horror shorts. They are also delighted to welcome Euro Horror icon Catriona MacColl, star of Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond, City of the Living Dead and House by the Cemetery as their Festival Guest of Honor.

Kicking off on Friday evening the festival opens with the Mexican cannibal family drama We Are What We Are followed by the World Premiere of Subconscious presented by director Chris Petropoulos a story of loss about a man whose family is killed in a car accident and is tormented by reoccurring nightmares.

Saturday starts early with some classic Dario Argento and the screening of the 40th Anniversary edition of The Bird with the Crystal Plumage his debut tale of murder and mystery. Belgian horror Vampires follows centering on a camera crew who are invited into a vampire community to record their day-to-day lives discovering they are just as neurotic as their human counterparts.

The afternoon features the first of the festivals Secret Saturday Screenings the second of which is later that evening. With rumors flying around we are keeping our lips closed except to say that the first 2 films of the day contain clues to the surprise movies origin and its genre.

Lucio Fulci’s brilliant City of the Living Dead takes to the screen next introduced by the movies star Catriona MacColl the Celluloid Screams Guest of Honor who will also be participating in a Q&A and signing afterwards. French fear fest The Pack brings Saturday to a screaming end ready for the final day where the carnage concludes.

Sunday starts with the birth of the anti-Christ as Richard Donner’s original The Omen opens the day. This is followed by Short Film Retrospective: The Films of Robert Morgan presented by the man himself showing 5 of his shocking shorts with an in depth Q and A.

Eighties cult classic Critters comes next serving a slice of entertaining Sci-Fi fun as the evil hairballs head to Earth to maim and kill. We get a tad more serious with Hong Kong horror Dream Home described as a ‘heady combination of social drama and gruesome horror’ its sure to be a crowd pleaser. The final film of the fest is The Revenant where a Middle East war vet is laid to rest only to return hungry for flesh much to the panic of his buddies, a spectacular end to a great 3 day film fest.
