Horror Movie Remake Predictions for 2015

Once the Christmas shopping is done and the turkey is finished, 2014 will follow suit leaving us the prospect of an exciting new year full of promise and lots more horror.

But although there will undoubtedly be lots of new ideas (and old ideas masquerading as new ideas) there will also be a bevvy of reboots and remakes. The question is, which of the many zany plans to remake classic horror films actually make it to production in 2015?

Horror Movie Remake Predictions for 2015

So using a number of sources and our intuition, we set out to find the most likely candidates.

Poltergeist

Poltergeist remake 2015

It was only a matter of time before a remake of Poltergeist came down the pipes. While it’s probably one of the most likely horror reboots to make it to the big screen as the film is already in production, there’s not necessarily a rock solid guarantee that it’ll make it all the way. Fox Pictures have however confirmed July 2015 as the release date that they’re aiming for. We are of course still waiting for a teaser.

Cabin Fever

Cabin Fever was the film that launched Eli Roth to fame, and by all accounts it was a fun, yet gory adventure into a woodland landsape with a horrible flesh decaying disease.
Quite why it needs a reboot, I’m not sure, but it’s already listed on IMDb vaguely with an optimistic 2015 release date.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Okay, so this one won’t be out in 2015, but production will probably begin at least. This teen slasher from 1997 did enough to entertain audiences to warrant a sequel, and there’s no denying the appetite for yet another film about ‘a group of beautiful teens being stalked by a psycho killer’ is still there.

The Toxic Avenger

It’s still a way off, but it looks like a remake of Friday the 13th rebootthis Troma classic will actually happen, and 2015 is likely to be the year when it all kicks off. According to Movieweb.com Hot Tub Time Machine creator Steve Pink has written a script and things are moving on, even though Arnold Schwarzenegger sadly dropped out of the project.

Friday the 13th

Another long shot is ANOTHER reboot of Friday the 13th. After the 2009 release left fans of the franchise feeling a little empty, it would seem that there are plans to do things right this time around. Again, details are vague, but there is at least a date in IMDB for November 2015, meaning that it might just be in cinemas for next Halloween!

  • Most of them I don’t care about, but the Poltergeist remake is potentially a disaster. They’re doing the smart thing by not using the exact same story, and no character names. If there was a Carol Anne, it would be first nail in the coffin.
Another reason I’m unsure how bad/good the remake will be….the production crew. With the original, you had Spielberg and Tobe Hooper running the show, ILM as your effects crew, and Oscar winning composer Jerry Goldsmith providing the score. Tough act to follow.
