2011 was looking so positive with a great Frightfest coming up – until I got hit by the sucker punch that is Paranormal Activity 3.
So Paranormal Activity was good. A great-first person horror which was reputedly made on a tiny budget. After its huge success it was only a matter of time until the Hollywood big boys built a franchise from it in order to make stacks of cash and generally make us feel like we wished that it had never existed (you know, just like its older sibling The Blair Witch Project).
Along came Paranormal Activity 2, a prequel because you know that we were all left wondering ‘but how did it all start?’ at the end of the first film.
Oh, you weren’t? Well maybe they just made a prequel because it’s the easiest way to make a quick buck and requires the least imagination.
So, what of Paranormal Activity 3?
By the looks of it, it’s a prequel to the prequel. Or a pre-prequel.
And although (judging by the trailer) it doesn’t look like the worst film in the world, it does make you wonder – Why not just make an entirely new film with these ideas? Why flog the Paranormal Activity horse yet further?
Here’s the trailer. Feel free to share your thoughts on the subject:
