Slasher House (2012) Review

Slasher HouseWhen RED awakens in a prison cell within an old abandoned Madhouse, she has no idea how she got there and why she has been placed there. As her cell door opens she soon discovers that she’s not alone. Trapped with the worlds most notorious serial killers she finds herself caught in a deadly game with no escape, as one by one the other ‘inmates’ are released to stalk her as their own prey.

RED must now battle impossible enemies as she tries to find her freedom and soon realizes that there is a bigger plan for all this than she first realized. Will this ‘Final’ girl have what it takes? Or will she see the last of her days in the endless corridors of SLASHER HOUSE!

I received this DVD in the post and it was initially quite hard to figure out what it was as I had to wipe so much blood from the case. Bit strange that as the postman didn’t seem to notice and made a comment that he thought it was strange people were sending me strawberry jam sachets in the post and ‘could I ask if they please didn’t do it again’.
Anyway, enough of my chatting, on with the review. Slasher House

RED appears to be completely unaware of why she has been taken to the location that she has awoken in. I sometimes wake up in a stranger’s bed and it’s awfully hard to get out of the house without getting noticed. Especially when you’ve just committed murder and you need to make a quick getaway. RED’s cell door opens and allows her to walk around the Madhouse.

During her travels she encounters the most strange serial killers I’ve ever witnessed in my life, one dressed as a clown (Cleaver) and the other being the notorious serial killer, ‘Thorn’. He is one mean bastard for sure. If I was stuck somewhere alone with him, my screaming would give Jahmene Douglas of UK X-Factor’s singing a run for it’s money!

She also happens upon the strange but relatively non-serial killer like Nathan. He has also been locked in one of the cells and like RED he has no idea why he has been placed there. RED is strangely drawn to Nathan and a spark seems to emerge between them during the course of the film. However, is Nathan all that he seems? Indeed, is RED all that she seems? You know the drill! You have to watch the DVD to find out…

If I had to describe the DVD in two words it would be: BLOODY AWESOME!!! I was so impressed with the movie and considering the budget (£5,000) I was not expecting the gore fest I witnessed upon placing the DVD in my player. Director MJ Dixon has delivered what I believe is going to be one of the potentially top films of the ’10s and with 3 other films in production MJ Dixon is definitely a director I am going to recommend as one to watch in the future.

Slasher House

Slasher House delivers on all levels: It allows the main characters to develop and show flaws during the course of the movie; it delivers a back story which allows you to obtain a better understanding of the characters and it also delivers blood, gore and scares – firing on all cylinders in the process. It’s also evident in the styling and visualization that a lot of love and sweat went into making the film. Anyone watching the DVD for the first time would be under the impression that the budget was so much more than it actually was.

I would highly recommend the DVD to anyone who likes their horrors to have gore, scares, tension and thrills all packaged into one cohesive film. Also, if you like your films to be British and independent you’ve struck gold!
