Love Horror’s Six Greatest Givers of Gore

As the Gore-A-Thon continues we bring you six of the sickest fictional horror characters that have taken gore to a whole new level across the franchises that have made them famous.

index1. Leatherface

Films: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986), Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990),Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006), Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)

Other Gore Guest Spots: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre comic series

Gore Trademarks: Leatherface can usually be found sporting a mask made out of someone else’s face. He can also be recognised by his whopping whirring trusty chainsaw plus an apron which he likes to wear to keep his clothes clean.

Gore Credentials: Coming from an inbred family of murderers and cannibals who kill their victims and sell their flesh as barbeque to the unsuspecting public, it was obvious that the boy that was Jed Sawyer was going to grow up (physically if not mentally) different. And that one day he would become a great gore dealing psychopath and that lunatic known as Leatherface.

Love Horror’s Greatest Gore Moment: So hard to choose but let’s go with Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Leatherface showing a girl how much he likes her by slicing off her friends face while skinning her and giving it to her as a present, aww how sweet!

index2. Hannibal Lector

Films: Manhunter (1986), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Hannibal (2001), Red Dragon (2002), Hannibal Rising (2007)

Other Gore Guest Spots: Thomas Harris’s Novels / Hannibal TV Series

Gore Trademarks: Whether he’s behind bars or in a straightjacket and mask this enigmatic and highly intelligent psychopath is best known for his brutal murders and exquisite dinner parties. Plus his ability to match the perfect wine with any body part is second to none.

Gore Credentials: Which ever incarnation of the character we are talking about, Hannibal the Cannibal is one of the most famous serial killers in fiction and one of the nastiest. Made famous by Anthony Hopkins it is Mads Mikkelsen’s amazing portrayal on TV that has not only shown Hannibal to be the most sophisticated and psychological sharp psycho around but also one of the goriest, committing multiple murders that look like beautiful blood soaked works of art.

Love Horror’s Greatest Gore Moment: Although Mikkelsen may be the best Hannibal, Hopkins has the goriest moment as Lector serves poor old drugged up Paul Krendler (Ray Liotta) his own brain for dinner, yummy!

sdfff3. Ash

Films: The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), Army of Darkness (1992)

Other Gore Guest Spots: Comics – Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness, Army of Darkness vs. Re-Animator, Darkman vs. Army of Darkness and Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors / Evil Dead: The Musical / Numerous Evil Dead games

Gore Trademarks: A shotgun (or boom stick) in one hand and a chainsaw for the other, Ash is ready to spread gore at all times followed swiftly by a witty one liner.

Gore Credentials: He’s the only hero to make this list. And as the man who made Ash famous, Bruce Campbell, has said Ash is incompetent at everything except fighting the Evil Dead, and man is he good at that.
After surviving the terrifying tribulations of the Deadites possessing his friends in the first film, he carves a gory path through the next two movies single handily. And with hints that he might be back at the end of the recent reboot let’s hope we get more gore from the one and only Ashley James “Ash” Williams very soon.

Love Horror’s Greatest Gore Moment: Hilarious and sick all at the same time, our personal favourite gore scene is Ash cutting off his own possessed hand in Evil Dead 2

dfvdfv4. Jigsaw

Films: Saw (2004), Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), Saw VI (2009), Saw: The Final Chapter (2010).

Other Gore Guest Spots: Saw: Rebirth Comic / Saw: The Video Game and Saw II: Flesh & Blood

Gore Trademarks: Traps, traps and more traps. Jigsaw is a sick and twisted villain with a mission to make his victims see that life is a gift that shouldn’t be wasted.

Gore Credentials: The evil genius that is Jigsaw has invented a whole host of deadly devices to dismember any individual he feels needs to be ‘tested’. Although he doesn’t get his hands as bloody as the other characters mentioned on our list with more gore dealing machines than anyone else around, he most definitely deserves his place as an all-star slaughterer.

Love Horror’s Greatest Gore Moment: Again there are so many to choose from for Jigsaw but we are rather partial to the Pig Vat Trap from Saw III. It sees someone set up to drown in the rotting juices of a batch of putrid pig carcasses. Thank god Saw was only in 3D and not smell-o-vision!

gfhgfh5. Pinhead

Films: Hellraiser (1987), Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988), Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992), Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996), Hellraiser: Inferno (2000), Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2000), Hellraiser: Deader (2005), Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005), Hellraiser: Revelations (2011)

Other Gore Guest Spots: Clive Barker’s books / Hellraiser and Pinhead Comics

Gore Trademarks: Usually found hanging out with his posse of equally disgusting looking Cenobite buddies. With pin’s imbedded in his entire head Pinhead is pretty recognisable looking almost as gory himself as the horrors he inflicts on others.

Gore Credentials: Traveling to Earth to harvest human souls and tear them apart, Pinhead and his demonic Cenobites take pleasure in inflicting all sorts of torture – be it emotional, psychological or extremely physical – on any humans that happen to take their frightening fancy.

Love Horror’s Greatest Gore Moment: Although Pinhead has featured in a ton of sequels the best gore moments are still found in the original Hellraiser film. Especially when Uncle Frank (Sean Chapman) gets impaled by chains in the movie’s climax.

gfhgh6. Death?

Films: Final Destination (2000), Final Destination 2 (2003), Final Destination 3 (2006), The Final Destination (2009), Final Destination 5 (2011)
Other Gore Guest Spots: Various Final Destination comics and novels.

Gore Trademarks: Unstoppable, invisible and bound to kill you in the craziest, most inventive way possible, the spectre of Death in Final Destination is usually marked by a seemingly innocent gust of wind. This breeze belies the disgusting gory ‘accident’ about to take place.

Gore Credentials: Call it Death, call it Fate, whatever you want to call it this force that has bumped off a terrified ton of characters over five films has caused some of the most unusually sick and disgusting deaths committed to celluloid. And it has one warped sense of humour too.

ghjhjghjjh

Love Horror’s Greatest Gore Moment: For us it’s the whole of Final Destination 5 a film that proves not only how great 3D can be but how gore can be watched on a whole other level… Okay if we have to pick one it’s got to be the eye surgery scene followed by a long fall out the window.
