Kill For Me (2013) Review

Kill For MeLife is hard for Amanda (Katie Cassidy from Arrow, Harper’s Island and the Nightmare on Elm Street remake) her roommate is missing and her abusive boyfriend wont leave her alone no matter how hard she tries to get rid of him.

Desperate and downbeat the arrival of a new roommate Hailey (Revolution and Being Human USA star Tracy Spiridakos) seems incidental however soon the pair realize they have much more in common than they first thought as Hailey opens up to Amanda about her horrific past and her violent alcoholic father.

The friends are forced further together when Amanda’s boyfriend shows up at the house intent on killing her and Hailey stops him with an axe to the head. Burying the body at her father’s farm Hailey begins to demand that Amanda repay her by ending her problem the same way she ended hers.

Kill For Me

Moving along at a good pace from the start Kill For Me is a solid horror thriller that contains enough twists and turns to keep the audience interested.

Although full of familiar faces from the small screen director Michael Greenspan stops the movie looking like a made for TV affair and Cassidy and Spiridakos both deliver good performances throwing themselves fully into their characters.

Thematically revolving around abusive men and abused women Kill For Me manages not to fall into rape revenge clichés, a good thing considering the genre has been plagued in recent years by gratuitous gore, sex and nudity as well as a torture porn sensibility.

That said one element of the film that does feel slightly unnecessary is the brief lesbian liaison between the female leads which takes place early on. Although it could be argued that it is simply part of their hyper charged relationship and feminist empowerment the scene seems somewhat incongruous and inserted for the wrong reasons which is a shame in a film that tries to take its story and characters seriously.

Drawing from several sources such as Strangers on a Train and Single White Female to name a few, Kill For Me is a twisted tale with a interesting story that deals with the cycle of abuse and the difficulties people have breaking free.
