On the 1st July 2013 Maniac finally comes out on Blu-ray and DVD giving anyone who missed it in cinemas a chance to see what we think is one of the best horrors of the year so far.
Getting a huge reception on its UK premier at FrightFest 2012 and bringing horror to the Cannes Film Festival as its Official Midnight Screening selection Maniac has generated a lot of hype and all of it is deserved as you see in our 4 Star review right Here
Just when the downtown Los Angeles streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back on the hunt. Frank (Elijah Wood) is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna (Nora Arnezeder) appears asking for his help with her new photo exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
From producers/writers Alexander Aja and Gregory Levasseur who brought us Switchblade Romance, Mirror and The Hills Have Eyes remake and director Franck Khalfoun (P2) Maniac is a remake unlike any other taking the original director William Lustig original 1980 slasher to a whole new level conceptualy. A stylized and technical triumph, with a nerve-shredding Argento tribute score. – the entire movie is shot from the killer’s point-of-view.
The release will feature so great extras including the Trailer plus over an hour of in depth interviews with Franck Khalfoun, Alexander Aja, Elijah Wood and Nora Arnezeder talking about all elements of making the movie from characters to story to the complications of filming it all in POV. Surprising Wood especially mentions several times how set against remakes he is but that he was blown away by the script and the stylistic innovation the film offered.
Maniac is out to buy on the 1st July 2013 and here is the trailer just in case you need any more convincing:
