the ones below

To celebrate the release of gripping psychological thriller The Ones Below we have 3 copies of the DVD to giveaway in our great new competition.

The critically acclaimed debut feature film from writer-director David Farr (The Night Manager), THE ONES BELOW is a stylish London-set thriller, with echoes of the Hitchcockian suspense of ‘Rear Window’ and the psycho-drama of Polanski’s ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, in which the lives of two couples become fatally intertwined.

With stand-out performances from a commanding quartet of actors – Clémence Poesy (Birdsong, The Tunnel), David Morrissey (The Walking Dead, Red Riding), Stephen Campbell Moore (History Boys, Ashes to Ashes), and Laura Birn (Purge), THE ONES BELOW presents a compelling portrayal of the anxieties of parenthood and big city living where nobody really knows their neighbours.

Kate (Clémence Poesy) and Justin (Stephen Campbell Moore) live in the upstairs flat of a London house. Thirty-something, successful and affluent, they are expecting their first baby. All appears well on the surface though Kate harbours deep-rooted fears about her fitness to be a mother and her ability to love her child. One day, another couple, Jon (David Morrissey) and Theresa (Laura Birn), move in to the empty apartment below. They are also expecting a baby and, in stark contrast to Kate, Theresa is full of joy at the prospect of imminent motherhood. Pregnancy brings the women together in a blossoming friendship as Kate becomes entranced by Theresa’s unquestioning celebration of her family-to-be. Everything changes one night ata dinner party in Kate and Justin’s flat. Kate begins to sense that all is not as it seems with the couple below. Then a tragic accident throws the couples into a nightmare and a reign of psychological terror begins.

Playwright, screenwriter and theater director David Farr makes an impressive directorial debut with THE ONES BELOW. Previously his writing credits include the highly successful adaptation of ‘The Night Manager’ starring Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Coleman and Hugh Laurie for the BBC. Working in theater for 20 years, as Artistic Director of The Gate Theater, Bristol Old Vic, The Lyric Hammersmith and then as Associate Director of The Royal Shakespeare Company, David’s plays have been performed all over the world in over 25 countries. The father of two daughters, David’s idea for THE ONES BELOW came from his anxieties of parenthood in the big city.

Giving an exceptional performance in the lead role of Kate, is French actress Clémence Poésy. Clémence received rave reviews for her performance in the First World War drama series ‘Birdsong’ with Eddie Redmayne, and can currently be seen in British/French crime series ‘The Tunnel’ on Sky Atlantic, playing the lead character of detective Elise Wassermann. Clémence’s feature film roles include Fleur Delacour in the Harry Potter films, In Bruges alongside Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, Mr Morgan’s Last Love alongside Michael Caine and most recently Giacometti’s muse in Stanley Tucci’s upcoming Final Portrait.
