The film follows the life of the 16th-century Ukrainian Cossack leader Taras Bulba. Bogdan Stupka stars as Bulba, who sends his son Andriy (Igor Petrenko) to study in Poland in order to teach him the ways of the oppressor, only to hear to his consternation that the boy has fallen in love with a Polish noblewoman.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Cossack warriors are forced to mount a fierce defence as the power-hungry Polish army sweeps across their land.
This leads to some great big battles and lots of action.
