1. Tell us about your film…
Andy Edwards: It’s called Ibiza Undead, and it does what it says on the tin – it’s a zombie film set in Ibiza. It contains everything you’d expect with a title like that, and hopefully a few surprises too. The cast includes Matt King (aka Super Hans from Peep Show), Downton Abbey’s Cara Theobold, and Emily Atack from The Inbetweeners. It’s a lot of fun – everyone should come and see it!
2. How did you get into making horror movies?
Andy Edwards: I’ve always made short films, often with a horror theme, since before I was at an age where I should have been watching them. The genesis for Ibiza Undead came from a short film I made called “Houseparty of the Dead”, which was shot in my flat in an afternoon with ketchup for blood. Everyone enjoyed it – well, they enjoyed being in it, as I got my zombie extras drunk for maximum staggering – so I ended up making 5 more “Houseparty of the Dead” shorts. Each time I built up the production values, until I was ready to tackle a feature. As it was my first feature I didn’t want to stray too far from either zombies or parties – so where better than Ibiza?
3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Andy Edwards:I always try and see my favourite classic horror movies on the big screen if they are showing anywhere. One I’ve never seen at the cinema is the John Carpenter classic The Thing – I think that would be a great film to watch with the FrightFest audience.
4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Andy Edwards: I’d like to reward those guys and girls who’s faces we don’t see because they’re hidden behind prosthetics or hockey masks – so a best “monster” award for all the unsung zombies, werewolves and faceless killers out there.
5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
Andy Edwards: It would have to be a horror movie about the absolute folly of trying to make a low budget film on the ultimate party island and being attacked by a horde of drunken zombies. It would be called Ibiza Undead Uncovered, and following the trend of Ghostbusters and gender-swapping roles, I’d be played by Jennifer Lawrence. I think she could do me justice.
