1. Tell us about your film?
Andrew Barcello: To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story is the story of horror icon, actor, and stuntman, Kane Hodder. Every fan knows him as powerful killer Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise, but what they may not know is that he was bullied as a child and burned severely in a fire stunt gone horribly wrong. The film takes an in-depth look at the man behind the mask, to reveal a truly inspirational human-interest story which fans will love!
2. How did you get into making horror movies?
Andrew Barcello: As an entertainment attorney, I have been involved in the legal aspect of film making for many years. Knowing that I am a big fan of stunt work, the Director, Derek Dennis Herbert, brought Kane’s book to me and told me I had to read it. Kane’s story was so honest, inspirational, and so different than his public persona, I knew I had to help bring it to the big screen. We then formed Masterfully Macabre Entertainment, made To Hell and Back, and dove head first into the horror world.
3. What film would you love to see screened at FrightFest and why?
Andrew Barcello: I am most excited to see To Hell and Back premiere, alongside the 10th anniversary screening of Hatchet. If I could pick one film not screening at FrightFest, I would pick John Carpenter’s The Thing. I’ve never seen it on the big screen, which I think would amplify the feeling of isolation and distrust that already permeates the film.
4. If you could create your own award to give at the FrightFest, what would it be and why?
Andrew Barcello: I would create the “Shock Award” and give it to someone who really did something unique and revolutionary in their film; whether it is a super creative kill, innovative approach to story-telling, or even just an awe-inspiring stunt. Anything that left the audience stunned.
5. If your life was made into a horror film, what would it be called and who would play the starring role?
Andrew Barcello: If I had to use my life as inspiration for a horror film, I would title it “The Defence” and it would star Jason Statham. It would be the story of a serial killer criminal-defence attorney who uses his intimate knowledge of his clients to frame them for his horrific murders. Because of his legal skills, the investigator can’t get anything to stick and eventually becomes the target of his next kill.
