Found (2012) Review

Marty is the ideal fifth grader. He gets good grades, listens to his teachers, and doesn’t start trouble in class. But darkness is beginning to fall over Marty’s life.

The kids at school won’t stop picking on him, Found 2012 horrorhis parents just don’t seem to understand him, and now Marty must grapple with a terrible secret that threatens to destroy life as he knows it – his big brother is a serial killer! Brotherly love is put to the ultimate test in this emotional coming-of-age story that descends into full-blown horror.

Sounds intense? Sounds like Marty lives a life much like kids in the U.K. doesn’t it? Ghetto fabulous huh?

Will Marty keep his big brother’s secret? Will he pluck up the courage to beat the bullies or will he cower in a corner, peeing through his pants?
‘Do we really care?’ I hear you cry.

Before watching the film I was prepared for the worst. A horror film on a miniscule budget ($8,000), which tackles bullying, family relationships and throws gruesome murder and decapitation into the mix. ‘Surely it won’t work’ I thought. Well, guess what? Shiver me timbers me hearties, it does!

There are even some convincing tender moments between Marty and his brother and there are even some moments between Marty and his parents. To say that Marty’s parents aren’t very caring is an understatement. Don’t get me wrong, they spend time with him by all means, but quality time, no.

As for Marty’s brother, he is hell bent on ensuring that Marty keeps his secret. If I had to keep such a secret, I would nod my head in agreement and say “Okay, I won’t tell a soul mate”. You would have to be insane to run to someone and say “Please help me, my brother is murdering people and leaving their heads in a bowling bag!”. Who would believe you and how would you even convince them?

Marty is a kid much life myself when I was younger. Obsessed with horror films and always pestering my mum to get me the latest horror movies from the local video store. Marty comes across a film called Headless, which I am pleased to tell you is being brought to DVD very soon. You must check out Found only to see Headless. It’s awesome. Trust me, I’m a serial killer.

Director Scott Schirmer who co-wrote the script with Todd Rigney (Who wrote the original novel, which the film is based on) has done a stirling job of convincing me that I was watching a film with a much greater budget. For $8,000, the effects were exemplary. I’ve never seen so much blood spilling from victims as they are cut apart. One poor woman even has one of her boobs cut off!
It doesn’t stop there either, so do yourself a favour and check out this film now. Awesome acting, a tale of bullying, morality, brotherly love and depravity. The ending alone will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, which is good in my book. Thumbs up from me.
Go buy it!

There’s also an awesome making of featurette and a bonus short film Deep Dwellers, which is also featured in the film as a film within the film along with Headless, which I would have liked to have seen included. My only gripe is the film has been cut slightly and is not the full unrated 103 minutes cut.

Movie Rating: ★★★★☆
